The Altar and Courtyard
The altar was a place where sacrifices were brought and made to the LORD. As you could
imagine, this was a very busy place. Many activities happened here. It is where animals were
burned in offering to the LORD God as a show of admiration, honour, and worship to Him.
The LORD spoke to Moses and gave him the details of the elements which would become
the outside courtyard of the Tabernacle of God. The Tabernacle was to be at the center of
the camp of Israel. It was from here that the pillar of fire by night and the cloud by day would
direct the people of Israel where they would travel. The details of the altar of sacrifices and the
courtyard are presented for everyone to see and read. Exodus 27 gives us the same message
that Moses gave to God’s people. As we study and read this passage, let us remember that we
are the temple of the Holy Spirit, where the presence of God reigns.
